‘Expect To Win…’ Robin Uthappa Questions Shubman Gill’s Leadership After GT’s Eliminator Loss To MI

The former Indian cricketer Robin Uthappa has questioned Shuham Gill's leadership after GT's recent loss to MI in the eliminator.

After becoming team India’s Test skipper, Shubam Gill’s leadership as GT’s captain was questioned by former India cricketer Robin Uthappa. The former cricketer turned commentator believes that under the new leadership, Titans looked more focused on reacting than on making their own moves. During the Eliminator, in which Gujarat Titans lost to Mumbai Indians by 20 runs, Robin Uthappa said Gujarat Titans captain Shubman Gill, under GT, should have let Prasidh Krishna have a go in the middle overs, despite him being better there.

Robin Uthappa’s Statement

“GT’s strategy was more reactive than proactive. Using Prasidh in the powerplay – despite his success in middle overs – was a misstep. His first over was expensive, and they failed to course-correct. The 26-run and 22-run overs proved costly. On top of that, their fielding let them down. You can’t drop that many catches and expect to win a championship.”

MI Vs GT Match Highlights

By winning 20 runs in the Eliminator, MI made it to Qualifier 2 of IPL 2025. MI won the game due to Rohit Sharma scoring a brilliant 81 and Bumrah’s awesome bowling. With the toss showing MI would bat, they posted 228/5, a total helped by strong efforts from Jonny Bairstow, Suryakumar Yadav, Tilak Varma and Hardik Pandya. GT started with losing their opening batsman Shubman Gill in the first over, but Sai Sudharsan and Washington Sundar helped them stay in the game. Once MI have won, the next fixture will be Qualifier 2 against PBKS.
