Indian head coach Gautam Gambhir requested the supporters and critics to stop evaluating the young Indian bowling attack after each Test match. India imploded and flamed out during the Leeds Test match when they were unable to defend 371 runs on the final innings. When the Indian pace attack effort had backfired miserably in Leeds, Gambhir defended the attack and said that the unit comprising Prasidh Krishna, Harshit Rana and Arshdeep Singh were very young and had to be given time to express themselves in the red-ball game.
Gautam Gambhir’s Statement
“This pace attack comprises one bowler who has played four Tests (Prasidh Krishna), there is another who has played two Tests (Harshit Rana), and one who hasn’t played a Test (Arshdeep Singh),” Gambhir told the press in the post-match press conference.
“In ODIs, it doesn’t matter, but on tours of England and Australia, these are tough places. It is like throwing them in the sea. If we start judging bowlers after every Test, how do we develop them?” he added.
Higlights Of Day 5 Of 1st Test
England have defeated India in the 1st Test of five-match Test series at Headingley, Leeds. A tense game that stretched to the final day final session, England won, achieving the second-biggest Test chase on English soil, having to chase 371 and losing only five wickets in the process. England opener Ben Duckett topped the table with a superb 149 on the last day. India have become the first team in the history of 148 years of Test cricket to have 5 centurions in a game yet lose. Rishabh Pant made hundreds in each of the two innings and, captain Shubman Gill and openers Yashasvi Jaiswal and KL Rahul hit tons, to no effect. Consequently, Gill loses his first Test as captain, too.
