ENG Vs IND: ‘Don’t See That Too…’ Ravi Shastri Stunned By Gautam Gambhir’s Post-Match Act

Following the match, captain Shubman Gill spoke about his happiness with the team's overall performance, particularly in light of missing the services of top bowler Jasprit Bumrah.

On 6th July, at Edgbaston, history was created as India won a historic Test match against England. The experience was even more special as head coach Gautam Gambhir donned a scarce, wide smile – a look rarely visible on his face. The happiness was evident, describing an utterly joyful Sunday for the Indian team as well as their fans. With Shubman Gill and Gambhir exchanging traditional handshakes with the England players, the coach’s own joy was seen, showing the importance of the second Test victory in the series.

Commentator Ravi Shastri couldn’t help but draw attention to Gambhir’s smile with his usual eagerness: “You don’t often see that smile, but he’s worked every inch of it. There’s no greater pleasure for a coach than coming back so aggressively to keep the series alive.”

I am absolutely happy that we won. Whether you score runs or not, if the side doesn’t win, it doesn’t feel like a success. This was my first Test victory as captain and to do it at a ground where India had never previously won makes it all the more special,” Gill told in an interview on JioHotstar.

He supplemented, “Even when we lost the first Test, we did not panic. We have come back from 0-1 before. We thought that if we kept scoring 400-450 runs consistently, our bowlers would give us a chance to win.”

“There were questions would we get all 20 wickets? Would we score big runs? But we knew we were just short in the last match.”. If we had retained half the opportunities, the result could have been different. I’m especially proud of our pacers.

When your fast bowlers grab 16 or 17 wickets, it eases the captain’s task immensely. Even in the absence of Bumrah, India has immense bowling depth. Our bowlers showed they are among the country’s best and can grab 20 wickets in any situation,” Gill added.
