Two batters have crossed the 50-run barrier in less than 38 balls in their first Test, but they did so in the second innings. On March 22-26, 2008, during the England-New Zealand Test at McLean Park in Napier, Tim Southee hammered a 29-ball half-century for the Black Caps in the 2nd innings, while England batsman Jacob Bethell reached the milestone of 50 runs with just 37 deliveries in the 2nd innings of the match played at Christchurch from November 28 to December 1, 2024, against New Zealand.
