Cristiano Ronaldo’s quest for trophy in Saudi Arabia still remains bogged down, with Al-Nassr suffering yet another disappointing, trophy-less season. In the AFC Champions League when they were eliminated in the semi-finals after a slim 3-2 defeat against Japan’s Kawasaki Frontale. Earlier, Al-Nassr already having been knocked out of the King’s Cup as early as October last year.
In the Saudi Pro League too, things are tough. Al-Nassr are eight points behind league leaders Al-Ittihad and have just five games left in the season. The difference makes their chances of winning the domestic title slim unless they can get an ideal run and pray for a mistake from their competitors.
In spite of the disappointments, 40-year-old Ronaldo used social media to post a touching statement. He appreciated the fans for their unwavering support during a tough campaign and commended his team-mates for their dedication and hard work on the field. The experienced forward recognized the despair but underlined the harmony and morale in the team.
“Sometimes the dream has to wait. I’m proud of this team and everything we gave on the pitch. Thank you to all the fans who believed in us and stood by us every step of the way. Your support means the world.”

In the future, Al-Nassr’s next game against Al-Ittihad on May 7 has become a game they need to win. Under new head coach Stefano Pioli, the team needs to win to preserve their thin hopes of winning the title and not suffer another season without a major title.
