India’s cricketing legend Sunil Gavaskar has vented his anger and frustration at Rajasthan Royals’ poor performances in IPL 2025, particularly following their fifth straight loss of the season. The Royals were defeated by Royal Challengers Bengaluru by a small margin of 11 runs in their last match, and Gavaskar questioned the team’s strategy in the game, considering that the great Rahul Dravid is the head coach. Even with one of India’s greatest cricketers at the helm, RR has not been able to find a united approach, especially in close run-chases a trend that has run throughout this season.
Sunil Gavaskar’s Sharp Verdict On Rajasthan Royals
Gavaskar wasn’t reluctant to play down their decision-making at key moments. RR have failed to build on promising starts in their run chases, and that has cost them a number of heartbreaking losses, including a Super Over loss to Delhi Capitals and a two-run loss to Lucknow Super Giants. With only two victories from their opening nine games, RR are now 9th on the IPL 2025 table, and their playoff dreams are on life support. Captain Riyan Parag has even suggested that the season could be beyond redemption, so RR will have to stage a miraculous comeback if they are to end with dignity, beginning with their next game against Gujarat Titans on April 29.

“Its Quite Baffling” Says Gavaskar
“With Rajasthan Royals, I’m actually talking about the earlier matches where I wasn’t at the ground. I just saw them. So, you’re not always able to get the feeling of what’s really happening. But here, I was at the ground, and you could actually see the kind of cricket that was being played. And with someone like Rahul Dravid as the coach, it was quite baffling—it was unthinking cricket,” Gavaskar said on Star Sports.
“Dravid was always so precise in his thinking, and I would’ve thought that kind of approach would’ve seeped into some of the Rajasthan batters,” he remarked.

“Where is the thought process there? You can’t expect inexperienced players to always get it right, but still… it’s just a different kind of cricket,” he added
