The IPL 2025 season resumes following a week-long hiatus caused by the India-Pakistan conflict, there are doubts about the availability of a number of influential overseas players loom large.
Overseas Stars Went Back Home After Suspension
When the competition was suspended temporarily, most of the foreign players returned home for safety reasons. Consequently, franchises have been left with no choice but to scramble to plug holes within their teams. In particular, Mitchell Starc, Jake Fraser-McGurk, Jofra Archer, Sam Curran, and Jamie Overton are some who have officially withdrawn from the rest of the season.

BCCI Offers Short-Term Signings Option
In a bid to assist teams with dealing with this unexpected loss of foreign talent, the BCCI has allowed franchises to recruit short-term cover. But there’s a twist these players will not be retained before the 2026 IPL mega auction, which means their stays will be solely temporary.
Shreyas Iyer Gives Strong Message
In a recent social media update, Punjab Kings infused a light but strong element to the discussion. The clip shows two men talking about the doubtful availability of stars such as Josh Inglis, Marcus Stoinis, and Josh Hazlewood. When the discussion takes a sad turn, Shreyas Iyer intervenes, bringing a message intended to boost morale and support the core of the IPL.
“The guys who you are talking about are really talented. But you should remember this is ‘Indian’ Premier League,” Shreyas said.
