Tensions are on a rise between former India cricketer Shikhar Dhawan and ex-Pakistan cricketer Shahid Afridi after the Pahalgam Terror Attack in Kashmir that claimed live of 26 innocent tourists. The incident had left Indians furious and the war of words between Shikhar Dhawan and Shahid Afridi is also increasing. The controversy started when Afridi made an extremely insensitive remark criticising the Indian Army and accused Indian of just blaming Pakistan for the attack.
Shahid Afridi’s Insensitive Remark
“Even if a cracker bursts there, you blame Pakistan. You have an eight lakh-strong army in Kashmir, yet this happened. This means your Army is useless for not being able to protect your people,” Afridi told Samaa TV.
Shikhar Dhawan Hits Back With Strong Reply
Afridi’s comments did on go well with India’s former opener Shikhar Dhawan and he furiously retaliated defending India’s army. Dhawan further went on to remind Afridi about the 1999 Kargil war and mentioned that he should focus on his country’s progress.
“Kargil mein bhi haraya tha, already itna gire hue ho aur kitna giroge, bewajah comments pass karne se acha hai apne desh ki taraqqi mai dimag lagao @SAfridiOfficial. Humein hamari Indian Army par bohot garv hai. Bharat Mata Ki Jai! Jai Hind! (“We defeated you in Kargil, you already have stooped so low, how much more can you, instead of passing pointless comments focus on your country’s progress @SAfridiOfficial. We are proud of Indian Army. Bharat Mata ki Jai! Jai Hind!”)
Shahid Afridi Passes Another Distasteful Comment
But the situation did not get under control and Afridi tried to mock the past incident which involved Indian Air Force Wing Commander Abhinandan Varthaman. When his plane was shot down during a 2019 aerial battle, Varthaman was held captive by Pakistan, and a video showing him drinking tea while in custody had gone viral. Afridi then made similar comments in hindsight, referencing that moment, and further fueled the conflict and attracted indignation from Indian fans.
Afridi shared a picture of himself and wrote: “Chouro jeet haar ko, aao tumhey chae pilata hun Shikhar.” (Forget about winning and losing, come, let me serve you tea, Shikhar.)
