Mumbai Indians opener Rohit Sharma was at the center of a fiery controversy during the IPL 2025 match against Rajasthan Royals, courtesy of a disputed DRS decision that fans feel could have been made after the 15-second deadline had passed.
Here’s What Happened
In the match, RR’s pace bowler Fazalhaq Farooqi trapped Rohit Sharma in front of the stumps already in just the second over. The umpire raised his finger after there was a vociferous appeal, and Rohit seemed briefly unsure whether or not to review the decision.
As the clock ticked on, Rohit first appeared to walk off, indicating he’d stand by his decision. But just as the timer hit zero some reckon a fraction after he came running back and waved for a review.
Rohit Sharma took the DRS after time ran out. How can the Umpire allow him to use DRS after time expired? Will they allow this if it was a RR batter? pic.twitter.com/f2clrSFglz

Third Umpire Overturns Decision
The TV umpire agreed that the delivery had pitched outside leg stump, and the on-field decision was overturned. Rohit breathed a sigh of relief with visible smiles and cracked a smile, realizing how narrowly he had escaped an early departure.
Fan Outrage Over DRS Timing
While the review benefited MI, fans on social media were quick to respond, wondering if Rohit’s review was too late. As per IPL rules, a player has to request a review within 15 seconds of the on-field decision. The video, widely shared on social media, has left opinion divided on whether the MI batter was just in time or a fraction late.

What's the point of having the DRS timer if it won't be used. By the time Rohit Sharma reviewed that, the countdown had already elapsed, and the umpire did not take that into consideration. #mi #IPL2025 #RohitSharma pic.twitter.com/BSaEPHa0Pw

Rohit Sharma's DRS decision was not out. I think it was an Umpire Call but again it's Mumbai Indians so it has to be Pitching Outside. #RRvsMI pic.twitter.com/VBGZ3czWFh
