Rachin Ravindra is set to miss out on the second ODI after suffering a severe injury to his forehead in the first game. While fielding in the deep, Ravindra lost sight of a ball, which struck him, leaving him with a significant wound that required stitches. Although initial fears of more serious damage have been alleviated, the medical team continues to monitor him for any signs of delayed concussion. As a consequence, Devon Conway will take Ravindra’s place in the playing XI for the second ODI, according to ESPNcricinfo.

In addition to Ravindra’s injury, it has also been reported that Lockie Ferguson’s injury recovery may take longer than expected, placing his participation in the Champions Trophy in doubt. With Ravindra ruled out, New Zealand will have to find a replacement opener, but it is unlikely they will make major changes to the team that delivered such an all-round performance in their opener against Pakistan.
