Punjab Kings owner Preity Zinta vented her ire on social media after a contentious third umpire call significantly contributed to PBKS’ close defeat against Delhi Capitals in their IPL 2025 match. On social media, following the match, Zinta lashed out at the umpiring, decrying what she termed as a glaring mistake which had no place in a competition of this caliber.
What Happened In PBKS Vs DC Match?
The incident took place in the 15th over of Punjab’s innings when Shashank Singh seemed to have reached the boundary with a big shot off Mohit Sharma’s last ball of the over. The on-field umpire took it to the third umpire for checking whether it was a boundary, and what ensued left the team as well as fans perplexed.
At the boundary, Karun Nair, the one who had tried for the catch, instantly indicated that the ball had gone over the ropes, a sign of a six. But a review later, the third umpire determined that there was no clear indication of Nair’s foot being in touch with or crossing the boundary line. The umpire, based on that, declared the play as a single run rather than a six — one that would later become the cause of much debate.
Preity Zinta Frustrated After Third Umpire’s Call

“In a such a high profile tournament with so much technology at the Third Umpire’s disposal such mistakes are unacceptable & simply shouldn’t happen. I spoke To Karun after the game & he confirmed it was DEFINITELY a 6 ! I rest my case ! #PBKSvsDC #IPL2025”
Reacting to a tweet by a fan expressing surprise at the umpiring error, Zinta shared that she had directly talked to Karun Nair and also the concerned batter, and both of them had confirmed that the ball had in fact crossed the boundary. She was not shy of her criticism and said such errors in officiating are “unacceptable” in an event as large and competitive as the IPL.
