Kolkata Knight Riders played against Chennai Super Kings and faced a shocking defeat at home despite being in the favour to win. Batting first they had set a target of 179/6 and CSK got a disappointing start as they lost five wickets in the powerplay but Urvil Patel (31) and Dewald Brevis (52) put back CSK in a very strong position. MS Dhoni finished the match in style and ensured that CSK was at the winning side this time.
KKR Qualification Hopes Look Dim
Ajinkya Rahane (48), Manish Pandey (36) and Andre Russell (38) were the three top batters for KKR and while bowling in the second innings it was only Vaibhav Arora who could bag 2 wickets. The Kinght Riders gave an early breakthrough and dismantled CSK in the powerplay but the Kings made a solid comeback and completely changed the game. The defeat also meant that KKR is almost out of the playoffs contention.

Ajinkya Rahane On KKR’s Defeat
After the loss, KKR skipper Ajinkya Rahane reflected on the defeat and mentioned about what went wrong in the match.
“It was a really tough (pill to swallow and lose). We were 10-15 short, 185-195 would have been an ideal total (on this pitch). Bowlers bowled really well, but tough to be on the losing side. (On if the 30-run over was the difference) Absolutely. In this format, it is bound to happen. One over here and there can change the momentum. They (Brevis and Dube) took their chances and it paid off. All about being brave and they were really brave. No complaints at all, the bowlers tried their best. (On how they approach the next few games) Pretty simple. Try to win two out of two, and then see what happens from there.”
