India Climbs To Fourth Spot In WTC Rankings After Dominant Edgbaston Victory

India's win is historic because, since 1967 India could not won a single match here in Birmingham but under the captaincy of Shubman Gill the losing streak is broken.

India has jumped to the fourth place in ICC World Test Championship (WTC) standings after a dashing victory in Birmingham by 336 runs. On the last day of second Test, England has to score more than 500 runs but they fell short by a huge margin as India’s bowlers were absolutely fantastic. Akashdeep registered his first fifer in England and completely wrecked havoc on field. It was a complete team effort and Indian outshone England in both batting and bowling.

In the first innings, India’s batting order dominantly scored 587 runs with Yashasvi Jaiswal (87), Shubman Gill (269), Ravindra Jadeja (89), and Washington Sundar (42) made sure the target became extremely difficult for England to chase. Even though England bounced back with Harry Brook and Jamie Smith scoring 158 and 184 respectively but still the team only managed to score 407 runs. While bowling Mohammed Siraj took a fifer for the first time in England and Akashdeep took 4 wickets.

In the second innings, KL Rahul (55), Shubman Gill (161), Rishabh Pant (65) and Ravindra Jadeja (69) again took a 608 runs lead by scoring 427 in the second innings. While bowling Akashdeep took 6 stunning wickets and sealed the win for India with Shubman Gill taking the last catch. Akashdeep stole the spotlight in second Test, he came in as the replacement of Jasprit Bumrah and took 10 wickets in single Test. He proved that picking him was the right decision and his significant contribution completely swept away England’s batting lineup.
