Don Bradman’s Iconic Baggy Green Cap Sold For A Jaw-Dropping Amount – Check Full Details

The cap was one worn by Don Bradman on India's first tour to Australia after independence.

Sir Don Bradman’s legendary “baggy green” cap, worn during his final Test series in Australia against India in 1947-48, was sold at an auction in Sydney on Tuesday, December 3, at Bonhams auction house. The final price touched $479,700 (Rs 2.63 crore) after the buyer’s premium was added. Bradman is considered by most to be the greatest batsman cricket has ever seen. He played in 52 Test matches, scoring 6,996 runs, including 29 centuries and 13 fifties. To date, he holds the record for double centuries in Test cricket (12) and, along with two other cricketers, the record for triple centuries (2).

The cap was one worn by Bradman on India’s first tour to Australia after independence. In that series, Bradman was sublime, and reached his 100th first-class century and accumulated 715 runs in only six innings, with a great average of 178.75. He has three centuries, this also includes a double century. This is the only known surviving “Baggy Green” of that historic series. He had given it to the Indian team manager, who further passed it on to the wicketkeeper. Years later, the collector sold the cap and it was donated for display at the Bradman Museum. It remained there until the sale.
