On May 8, 2025 in Punjab Kings vs Delhi Capitals match there was a sudden blackout in the Dharamsala Stadium and all the players, audience were asked to evacuate, this happened due to escalating India-Pakistan tensions. On May 9, keeping a close monitor of the situation, the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) took a strong decision of suspending the IPL 2025.

The Board salutes the bravery, courage, and selfless service of our armed forces, whose heroic efforts under Operation Sindoor continue to protect and inspire the nation, as they lead a resolute response to the recent terrorist attack and the unwarranted aggression by Pakistan’s armed forces.” as mentioned in IPL 2025 official release

Pakistan Violates Ceasefire
On May 10, a ceasefire was swiftly brokered by U.S. President Donald Trump, bringing a temporary pause to hostilities. However, the truce was short-lived, as Pakistan violated it, further reigniting the conflict. As soon as the ceasefire decision came the BCCI secretary Devajit Saikia said that the board will give the next 48 hours to consider inputs from all parties involved before scheduling a strategic session to chart the path forward for the competition.

How Will Pakistan’s Violation Affect IPL 2025 Rescheduling?
But now that Pakistan has violated the ceasefire, there can be a delay in starting of IPL 2025 as the situation is constantly aggravating and if the tensions/conflict doesn’t come under control the BCCI will have very little say. The final decision will only come once it is approved by the government and all the stakeholders.
