PCB Briefs Prime Minister On Developments

On Sunday, Mohsin Naqvi apprised Prime Minister Sharif about the latest developments on the Champions Trophy. Though the PCB does not say much about its discussion with Sharif, it is said that he again emphasized that the matter was not just about finance. Naqvi was reminded that Pakistan must not compromise its self-respect while handling the situation with pride.

The Prime Minister assured his complete support to the PCB on the issue and appreciated the stance taken by the (PCB) chairman on India refusing to play in Pakistan in the mega-event,” the PTI source said.

“The stance adopted by the PCB reflects the feelings of all Pakistanis when it comes to the Champions Trophy after the refusal of India to play in Pakistan,” Geo TV quoted the premier as telling Naqvi during the meeting.

Next Steps For Pakistan

Naqvi clarified that any final decision on the Champions Trophy would be made after consulting the government. A source close to the government revealed that the meeting with the Prime Minister was held on short notice because Naqvi wanted to inform Sharif about PCB’s next course of action. This comes after BCCI rejected “Fusion Formula” proposed by PCB at the headquarters of the ICC in Dubai.

“Basically, Naqvi wanted to keep the PM updated and get his approval if the PCB decides to break the deadlock with any tough decision on the tournament,” the PTI source said.

“Fusion Formula” And Its implications

The “fusion formula” of the PCB intends to establish a reciprocal deal between Pakistan and India on holding future ICC events. If India does not participate in future ICC events held in Pakistan, then Pakistan would refrain from sending a team to India for any upcoming events. The formula is on the central point of discussion as the ICC is striving hard to finalize the hosting plans for future events.
