The Proteas’ former captain ‘Mr. 360’ AB De Villiers turned 41 today on 17 February 2025. De Villiers has not only been a phenomenal batter and wicketkeeper but also an outstanding fielder with a very safe pair of hands. His ability to play shots in every direction got him the title of ‘Mr. 360’. He played artistically that the aerial shots would usually land in the stands.

An All-Rounder

De Villiers is rightly called the player of generation. He has impressive stats in every format of the game be it the white ball or the red ball. He has 9,597 ODI runs in his name. 8765 Test Runs, 5162 IPL runs which includes 25 ODI hundreds and 22 Test hundreds. His spectacular ODI average of 53.5, Test average of 50.66 and and ODI strike rate of 101.1 demonstrate his ability to switch gears while playing in any format. He has been the no.1 ODI batter for 1480 days.

On 19 March 2015 World Cup against the West Indies, De Villiers played a phenomenal 162* runs innings in just 62 balls with a strike rate of 245.45 which included 17 fours and 8 sixes. He led the team to victory by a convincing margin of 257 runs. He was also awarded as the Player of the match for his extraordinary innings.

During the second Test match at Adelaide against Australia, De Villiers showcased his ability to stay on the crease and hold one end of the batting. He scored 1 run in the first innings from 15 balls but what he did in the second innings was nothing short of exceptional he scored 33 runs in 220 balls when he was finally dismissed by Peter Siddle. He played a very crucial role by making the ball older and leading to the wearing down of the Red ball which further benefitted the batter. The match was ultimately drawn but Faf Du Plessis was awarded man of the match.
