Every year, thousands of students from all over India try to pass the IIT-JEE in hopes of getting a seat at IIT. To get in, students must first pass the JEE Main exam and then the JEE Advanced exam.
Scoring full marks in JEE Main is a big achievement, and Om Prakash Behera from Odisha has done just that. He scored a perfect 300/300 in the JEE Main 2025 January session, getting a 100 percentile NTA score.
How Om Prakash Stayed Focused To Achieve A Perfect Score
Om Prakash says he passed one of India’s hardest exams because of his careful approach, focused self-study, and smart planning. But what stood out is that he wasn’t just avoiding social media—Om Prakash doesn’t use a phone at all. He believes his success came from being disciplined, studying hard, and planning his preparation carefully. The key factor that helped him stay focused was not having a phone, which is unusual since most young people have one. He made this choice to avoid distractions and keep his focus entirely on his studies
Om Prakash said that “I scored 300 out of 300. I worked really hard for 3 years. I am happy with my results. My parents always support me. Overthinking a bad result won’t help. Instead, focus on your weaknesses. Learn from it, get motivated, and concentrate on future exams.”
Om Prakash’s Routine And Study Approach
A big part of Om Prakash’s routine was self-study. “I study on my own for about 8 to 9 hours every day,” he says. His focused approach helped him have a better understanding of JEE concepts and work well with his tutors. Om Prakash believes in learning from his mistakes to improve. “Every exam helps me get better. My marks change in weekly tests, but I always try my best. After each test, I analyze my mistakes and see what went wrong. Then, I try not to repeat those mistakes in the next test,” he explains.
For study material, Om Prakash focused on the basics. “For JEE Main, I mainly followed the NCERT syllabus,” he adds. Om Prakash is from Bhubaneswar, Odisha, and has been studying at a coaching center in Kota for the past three years. His family, especially his mother, Smita Rani Behera, has been a big help in his studies. To support him, his mother, who is a college teacher in Odisha, paused her career for three years to stay with him in Kota. His father, Kamalkant Behera, is an officer in the Odisha Administrative Services.
Even with his tough and strict study schedule, Om Prakash makes time for his hobbies. He enjoys reading novels, which helps him relax from his busy routine.
Scoring 300 out of 300 in JEE Main is just the start of his journey. He is now preparing for JEE Advanced, the entrance exam for IITs. His dream is to study BTech in Computer Science at IIT Mumbai. With his focus and hard work, he is on track to achieve this goal. Om Prakash’s simple but effective motto is, “Instead of focusing on what has already happened, I focus on what is happening.” His approach can teach a lot to other JEE aspirants.
