Ingredients
- 4 tbsp of mustard oil
- 2 tbsp of black mustard seeds
- 4–6 pieces of Ilish Maach (Hilsa fish)
- A splash of warm water
- 2 tbsp yellow mustard seeds
- ½ tsp of turmeric powder
- Salt to taste
- 3–4 green chilies
Step By Step Guide
Grind Mustard Seeds Into A Smooth Paste
First, you have to soak the yellow and black mustard seeds in warm water for about 15-20 minutes. Then grind them with 2-3 chilies and a pinch of salt to form a smooth paste.
Prepare The Fish For Marination
In the next step, the pieces of Ilish are lightly coated with salt and turmeric. Set it aside for about 10-15 minutes.
Make The Mustard Sauce
Moving on to the next step, combine the mustard paste with a little warm water to make a smooth sauce. You can also add salt and turmeric (if required).
Gently Cook The Fish
Next, heat the mustard oil in a non-stick pan over a medium flame. Gently add the fish pieces in the pan and cook for 3-4 minutes. Then remove the dish and set aside.
Add The Sauce And Fried Fish
Once you are done with the above steps, add the mustard sauce to the same pan and simmer for next 3-4 minutes. Add a little water if the sauce gets too thick. Now mix in the fried fish and cover the pan with a lid. Let it cook for 5-7 minutes.
Garnish And Serve
Remove the dish from the pan. It is now ready to serve. Garnish the dish with fresh coriander leaves and serve hot with rice or chapati. Enjoy!
