New Delhi: West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee Wednesday held the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) responsible behind the violence took place in the state during the Panchayat Polls.

“People who have no work just do violence, protest and make people fight with each other. This is the work of the BJP, but people will respond to this by voting peacefully,” said the CM. 
She further said the BJP is terrified after the meeting of key Opposition parties on July 18. The CM said, “India will face elections…since yesterday they (BJP) are trembling with fear.”
Meanwhile, CM Banerjee condemned the violence in the state and announced ex-gratia to the kins of the victims. She said, “We are giving compensation of 2 lakhs to the families of those who died in the violence and a job to one family member. We are giving Rs 50,000 to the injured.”

Earlier, the BJP had alleged that at least 45 people were killed in the series of clashes took place at the pooling booths and nearby areas where people went to cast their votes and other such incidents.

Bengal Violence

The Panchayat polls took place on July 8. However, the incidents of violence started to be reported even before the day of casting votes. Bombings took place at rival leaders house and their houses were vandalised.

Meanwhile on the day of election, ballot boxes were looted, clashes broke out between police and civilians and many such incidents were reported.
