Who Is V Narayanan? The New ISRO Chief Set To Succeed S Somanath

Narayanan joined ISRO in 1984 and served in various roles before becoming the Director of LPSC. He has previously worked in the Solid Propulsion area of Sounding Rockets and Augmented Satellite Launch Vehicle (ASLV) as well as Polar Satellite Launch Vehicle (PSLV) at Vikram Sarabhai Space Centre (VSSC).

The Centre appointed V Narayanan as ISRO’s new Chief and the Secretary of the Department of Space on Tuesday. Narayanan is set to assume office on the 14th of January. He will succeed S Somanath, the present chairman of the Indian Space Research Organisation.

As per an official order from the Cabinet’s Appointments Committee, Narayanan has been appointed to serve the above-mentioned roles for the next 2 years, until further notice. The order stated, “The Appointments Committee of the Cabinet has approved the appointment of Shri V. Narayanan, Director. Liquid Propulsion Systems Centre, Valiamala as Secretary, Department of Space and Chairman, Space Commission for two years with effect from 14.01.2025, or until further orders, whichever is earlier.”

Who Is V Narayanan?

V Narayanan is a distinguished scientist with nearly 40 years of experience in rocket and spacecraft propulsion. At present, he is the Director of ISRO’s Liquid Propulsion Systems Centre (LPSC) in Valiamala, Kerala.

Narayanan joined ISRO in 1984 and served in various roles before becoming the Director of LPSC. He has previously worked in the Solid Propulsion area of Sounding Rockets and Augmented Satellite Launch Vehicle (ASLV) as well as Polar Satellite Launch Vehicle (PSLV) at Vikram Sarabhai Space Centre (VSSC). His contributions include process planning & control, and composite motor & igniter cases.
