New Delhi: According to the Union Housing and Urban Affairs Department’s G20 unit, M. B. Singh, the 15th Finance Commission recommended establishing eight new cities. He went on to say that, in response to the commission’s groundbreaking recommendation, various states rushed to submit their proposals to the Central Government. A whopping 26 proposals were received, but after careful examination and analysis, the powers that be are now seriously considering the development of eight of the hopefuls.

Everyone’s attention is naturally drawn to the location of these futuristic cities. Singh assured the worried public that the government would reveal the selected locations, as well as the proposed timelines for their development, in due course.

The urgency of this endeavour stems from the fact that existing cities are struggling to meet the demands of their citizens. The unplanned growth on the outskirts of these urban centres has wreaked havoc on their foundational planning. Enter the concept of building new cities from the ground up, which promises to provide a breath of fresh air to an increasingly suffocated population.
