‘Today Is The Last Day Of Suffering’, Says A Pakistani Migrant On CAA

18 Hindu immigrants from Bangladesh, Pakistan, and Afghanistan have received Indian citizenship certificates from the district administration in Ahmedabad, Gujarat. Minister of State for Home Affairs Harsh Sanghvi said on this occasion that all of these people's houses will have a Diwali-like atmosphere.

The Citizenship Amendment Act, 2019 (CAA) has been recently implemented by the Modi Government. This law provides citizenship to the minorities from Bangladesh, Pakistan, and Afghanistan. Recently, in a certificate award camp held by the district administration at the collectors office in Ahmedabad, Gujarat, 18 people who migrated from Pakistan were given citizenship certificates by Home Minister Harsh Sanghvi.

After presenting the Indian citizenship certificates to eighteen Pakistani residents of Ahmedabad, Home Minister Harsh Sanghvi said “Smile; you are all now citizens of India.”

Home Minister’s appeal to the opposition

In an interview, Harsh Sanghvi said that all eighteen of these people will celebrate this day as Diwali. The government is dedicated and willing to provide citizenship to minorities. Sanghvi stated that the opposition parties opposing the CAA’s implementation for the minority communities in Pakistan, Afghanistan, and Bangladesh should not do this. He further added, “We have to be aware of these people’s suffering. It is important to know their struggle”.

Simultaneously, the minority communities that have immigrated to India from Pakistan, Afghanistan, and Bangladesh have been granted the authority to become citizens of India by the District Collector of Ahmedabad-Gandhinagar and Kutch. According to this, 1167 individuals in Ahmedabad received Indian citizenship certificates between 2017 and 2023.

Migrants talking about CAA

After arriving in India from Pakistan and obtaining Indian citizenship, residents of Ahmedabad said “We are very happy today.” Today is the last day of the suffering we have gone through. We arrived in India from Pakistan because it is more peaceful here than it is there. Those who disagree with this law need not to do so since it is the law that granted us Indian citizenship today. We have spent a considerable amount of time in India”.
