Over 1.86 crore candidates appeared in computer-based tests (CBTs) conducted by Railway Recruitment Boards (RRBs) for 55,197 vacancies in railways since November 2024. Apart from this, RRBs have also issued more than 9000 appointments in the first quarter of this financial year.
CBTs for the RRB exams are a significant exercise that involves a lot of planning and coordination. However, RRBs have recently taken the initiative to provide exam centres which are somewhat closer to the candidates’ residence, and also given preferential treatment to female and PwBD candidates. This means enlisting more exam centres and aggregating more human resources to conduct the exam in a fair and transparent manner.
As per the annual RRB calendar, with 12 notifications already issued for 1,08,324 vacancies since 2024, there are still going to be more than 50,000 appointments being issued in the next financial year 2026-27.
Aadhar Authentication
In order to improve the transparency in the examination process, e-KYC based Aadhar authentication has been used to authenticate the identity of candidates. Jammers will be deployed 100 percent across all exam centers of RRBs to prevent cheating associated with electronic device use in the examination.
West Central Railway
In the meantime, West Central Railway, Bhopal, has started a new process of verifying passenger identity based on the mAadhaar mobile app, based on guidelines issued by the Railway Board.
By implementing the process, officials believe to prevent unauthorised travel and misuse of Aadhaar cards/fake Aadhaar cards or tickets reserved in somebody else’s name. To streamline the process of identity verification with the use of technology, the mAadhaar app developed by the Unique Identification Authority of India (UIDAI) will be an effective app for verifying Identity in real-time, added the release.
The mobile app provides QR code-based identity validation that would allow standard and reliable verification of the passenger’s Aadhaar card identity. The app will soon be available on Handheld Terminals (HHT devices) to curb the misuse of reserved tickets and identity cards and ensure the passenger’s real identity.
