In the wake of the recent terrorist attack in Pahalgam, the upcoming Amarnath Yatra has become a crucial security concern for Jammu and Kashmir authorities. To ensure the safety and smooth conduct of the 38-day pilgrimage beginning July 3, Lieutenant Governor Manoj Sinha convened an all-party meeting at Raj Bhawan, bringing together political leaders from across the region.
The meeting, attended by Chief Minister Omar Abdullah, Deputy Chief Minister Surinder Kumar Choudhary, and representatives from various political parties including the National Conference, BJP, Congress, CPI(M), Apni Party, and Peoples Democratic Front, aimed to review arrangements and deliberate on security preparedness for the upcoming yatra.
During the discussions, LG Sinha briefed participants on the extensive security arrangements put in place to facilitate an incident-free pilgrimage. Chief Minister Omar Abdullah also updated the forum on the logistical and administrative measures undertaken by his government to ensure the safety and well-being of pilgrims.
Expressing confidence, AICC General Secretary Ghulam Ahmad Mir emphasized the importance of involving civilians in the yatra’s management and ensuring public movement alongside the pilgrimage. CPI(M) leader and MLA M Y Tarigami highlighted the role of the people of Jammu and Kashmir, especially those from the Valley, in making the pilgrimage successful each year. He reaffirmed their readiness to host and support the yatris with warmth and security.
This high-level consultation reflected the unity and commitment of political stakeholders to ensure a peaceful, secure, and successful Amarnath Yatra despite recent challenges, demonstrating the people’s resolve to preserve Valley’s spiritual and cultural heritage.
