Opposition Meet: A big announcement has been made by JDU before the opposition meeting on June 23 in Bihar’s capital Patna. JDU National President Lalan Singh says that Nitish Kumar is not a contender for the post of PM. Lalan Singh said on Sunday that Nitish Kumar is not the prime ministerial candidate. He is leading the way to make a BJP free country. He is determined to strengthen opposition unity.

He also urged party workers to refrain from raising slogans supporting Nitish Kumar as the prime ministerial candidate. Lalan Singh said that such slogans hurt opposition unity. “When the country becomes BJP-free after the elections, all parties will meet to discuss who will lead the country,” he said.

18 opposition parties meet

Lalan Singh claimed that 18 political parties would participate in the meeting to discuss the strategy to challenge the BJP in the 2024 Lok Sabha elections. The JD(U) chief said Jammu and Kashmir National Conference chief Farooq Abdullah and Jammu and Kashmir Peoples Democratic Party chief Mehbooba Mufti have also extended their support for the opposition meeting to be held on June 23.

Nitish, Kejriwal, Mamata meet

Nitish Kumar has traveled to several states, including Delhi, West Bengal, Uttar Pradesh, Maharashtra, Odisha and Karnataka, to unite like-minded parties against the ruling BJP at the Centre. Nitish had met Congress leaders for the first time on April 12, following which Rahul Gandhi described the meeting as a historic step towards opposition unity.

Nitish Kumar has also met Arvind Kejriwal, Samajwadi Party chief Akhilesh Yadav, Bengal CM Mamata Banerjee besides Odisha CM Naveen Patnaik and others. Nitish had approached Jharkhand Chief Minister Hemant Soren, NCP supremo Sharad Pawar and Sena (UBT) chief Uddhav Thackeray in May.
