The Madhya Pradesh police booked an Army officer for allegedly raping a cop on the pretext of marriage. The woman constable is posted in Bhopal and the incident dates back to 2012.
According to a PTI report, the FIR was registered after a complaint was received from the cop against 48-year-old Varun Pratap Singh, who is posted as Lt Colonel in Uttarakhand’s Haldwani.
The accused officer threatened the victim with dire consequences if she filed a complaint with police.
An official of Bhopal Police Women Security said they informed Singh’s unit about the FIR. If he comes down to join the probe, it would be okay otherwise they will follow the process to arrest him.
The victim alleged in the FIR that she met Singh for the first time in 2012 when he was posted at a canteen in Bhopal. The victim claimed that the officer established consensual physical relations with her after promising to marry her.
Later, the victim learned that the Army officer was already married and he had made a similar promise to another woman.
When she confronted him at the location where he is currently posted, he refused to marry her and threatened to “hang” her.
