‘Beti Bachao Beti Padhao’ or ‘Ladli Behna Yojana’ is to be kept on banners for embellishment because the reality for a girl child is still gloomy in Indian society. Chaos erupted in the campus of Kushinagar’s community health centre after three women started beating a man. However he was saved after mediation by others present at the spot, but no police official came from the police chowki which is just 200 meters from the hospital.
Ashiq Ali and Sajida have been married for twelve years. They have five daughters and Sajida was pregnant again. Her mother and sister-in-law (bhabhi) took her to CHC when she started having labour pain on Tuesday evening. Meanwhile, her husband was informed.
After delivery, Sajida gave birth to a healthy baby girl for which her mother and bhabhi had a deal of 10 thousand rupees after Sajida’s consent. The buyer however didn’t have that sum and pleaded to buy the girl child for nine thousand rupees. To finalize the deal, he went to Tehsil office to buy the stamp paper just when Ashiq Ali arrived.
When he asked about the newborn, he was told that a dead child had been born, though he wasn’t convinced. He went to the medical officials to enquire only to know that a healthy girl child was born and had been handed over to the family.
Perplexed Ashiq went to his wife to get the picture cleared and subsequently got assaulted by her and the other two ladies. After people were surrounded to mediate, they disappeared. Meanwhile, police inspector Neeraj Kumar Rai of Tamkuhiraj, Kushinagar has said that both the parties have reached a mutual settlement.
