In a tragic incident, a man died by suicide after his girlfriend refused to elope with him in Uttar Pradesh’s Saharanpur district. The incident took place in Kurdikheda village.
Man used woman’s stole to hang self
The deceased has been identified as 22-year-old Samrez, who was a native of Barugarh village. He hanged himself from a tree after using a woman’s stole. A video of the woman crying over his body went viral on social media.
According to media reports, Samrez had an affair with a woman who belonged to another community. The panchayat assaulted Samrez for having a relationship with the woman. The couple was planning to marry, but the families were opposing their marriage as the two were from different religions.
Samrez tried to convince the woman to elope with him
The police said that Samrez spoke to the woman over the phone and tried to convince her to elope with him, but she refused to do so.
Samrez took his stole and tied it to a tree despite the woman pleading with him not to take such a step. Samrez hanged himself.
Woman’s family was looking a match for her: Locals
The locals said the families asked them not to meet after learning of their relationship. The woman’s family was looking for a match for her.
The police have launched a probe into the matter.
