The Kerala police on Thursday said that a 40-year-old woman died by suicide after being allegedly humiliated by a mob in north Kerala.
According to PTI, the victim has been identified as Rasina. She was found dead at her home in Pinarayi village. The police said the victim was upset after a group of men questioned her over her male friend in public.
Police arrested SDPI activists
Police have arrested three activists of the Social Democratic Party of India (SDPI) in connection with the case. The SDPI is a political outfit of PFI, a banned Islamist organisation.
The victim and her male friend were questioned for an hour, and, later they assaulted and detained her friend for an hour.
Accused summoned male friend’s family to SDPI office
The accused also took his mobile phone from him and summoned his family members to the SDPI office.
The arrested men have been remanded to judicial custody.
SC hands over probe into TN ADGP’s involvement in abduction case to CB-CID
In a separate case, the Supreme Court handed over the investigation into Additional Director General of Police (ADGP) HM Jayaram’s suspension for his alleged involvement in an abduction case to the CBCID (Crime Branch Criminal Investigation Department).
A bench of Justices Ujjwal Bhuyan and Manmohan also set aside the Madras High Court’s direction to take action against ADGP Jayaram.
SC: ‘Matter is to now be heard by a different judge of the Madras HC’
The top-court has also directed that the matter is to now be heard by a different judge of the Madras High Court, from the bench that had passed directions against the senior police official.
Earlier on Wednesday, the Supreme Court directed the state government of Tamil Nadu to file its response to the suspension of Tamil Nadu’s Additional Director General of Police (ADGP) HM Jayaram in an abduction case.
The Court also stated that it’s demoralising that the said officer has been suspended, after it was informed that he has joined the investigation in the case. The Court thus directed the Tamil Nadu government to file its response by tomorrow on the senior officers’ suspension.
The senior officers’ counsel submitted that his client, who was arrested on June 16, was released on Tuesday around 5 PM. He stated that the officer was also suspended by the State.
