Kerala: In a shocking incident, a 10-year-old girl died by suicide at her home on Wednesday. The incident has been reported from Vellanad in Thiruvananthapuram district of Kerala. The deceased was found hanging in the washroom of her house. Her grandmother and younger sister were at home at the time of incident, while her mother was at work. It is stated that a quarrel with her younger sister triggered her to take her own life.
What Did Police Say?
According to the police, children were playing at home when the incident occurred. While they were playing, an argument broke out between the sisters over a pen. Following the incident, the deceased ran away and locked herself in the washroom. She was later found hanging from a steel rod using a shawl. She was rushed to the hospital where doctor declared her dead.
A case has been registered by the Aryanad police under Section 194 of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS). The official stated that a fight had erupted between the sisters and further investigation into the matter is underway. Police also revealed that the parents are living separately, and a divorce case is pending in the court.
In another incident reported from Kerala on February 19, a teacher died by suicide after allegedly denied salary for the last six years in Kozhikode. Aleena Benny, 30, who was employed at St. Joseph’s LP School in Kodenchery and was a member of the Thamarassery Diocese Corporate Management, was discovered hanging from the roof of her bedroom around 3 p.m on Wednesday.
Aleena did not attend school that day, and her cell phone was switched off. Her absence prompted the school authorities to inquire with her father. Aleena’s family alleges that she took this drastic step due to the mental trauma caused by being deprived of her salary for six years.
