Students’ Federation of India (SFI) on Wednesday staged a protest against Kerala Governor Rajendra Arlekar, who came to attend the book release of ’50 years of Emergency’, at Kerala University in Thiruvananthapuram.
The police detained members of the SFI as they were protesting against the event and created chaos on the street. They were shouting slogans.
SFI activists held protest against Governor last week
Similarly, last week, SFI activists held a protest against the Governor, accusing him of adopting an anti-student position. The activists protested when the Governor visited to attend a senate meeting at the university.
Activists were against the installation of Bharat Mata pictures and pictures of RSS Ideologues KB Hedgewar and Golwalker at the Kerala Raj Bhawan.
SFI activists protested at Kannur University
On June 5, The Students’ Federation of India (SFI) activists staged a protest at Kannur University in Kerala.
The protest comes in response to a directive from the university’s Vice Chancellor to establish a monitoring committee. This committee will oversee the content of events held in affiliated colleges to ensure that no anti-national elements are present.
Activists burned the copies of the order
Visuals showed the activists attempting to barge into the university’s administrative office and the police preventing them. As a mark of protest, they also burned the copies of the order.
The university has warned that strict action will be taken against any event found to include anti-national elements. SFI activists are protesting, likely citing concerns over freedom of expression and academic autonomy.
