Several people sustained injuries after a fight broke out between two groups and stones were pelted in Jharkhand’s Hazaribagh city on Wednesday. According to reports, the dispute escalated over the installation of loudspeakers and flags for “Mahashivratri.”
Police said when a group of people were installing a religious flag and loudspeakers to celebrate Mahashivratri at Hindustan Chowk in Dumroun village of Hazaribagh, another group protested, and they entered into verbal arguments.
Following the arguments, the issue escalated, and they entered into a full-fledged fight. Several vehicles, including cars, motorcycles, and e-rickshaws, were torched, and shops were vandalised during the fight.
Upon getting information, multiple teams of police comprising senior police officers reached the spot to control the situation.
Officials from local administration also rushed to the spot and controlled the situation. “Adequate forces have been deployed, and senior officers are camping at the site. As of now, the situation is under control and peaceful,” said Hazaribagh Deputy Commissioner Nancy Sahay to the media. Police said efforts are underway to identify the miscreants.
