The India Meteorological Department (IMD) has issued a warning of extremely heavy rainfall (≥21 cm) in many parts of the country during the coming week. In view of this, red and orange alerts have been declared in many states.
South-West Rajasthan is likely to receive very heavy rainfall on July 20, while South-East Rajasthan is also likely to receive heavy rainfall on the same day. North India including Jammu and Kashmir, Himachal Pradesh, Uttarakhand, Punjab, Haryana and Western Uttar Pradesh may receive heavy to very heavy rainfall from July 20 to 24. Red alert has been issued especially for Uttarakhand from July 20 to 22.
West India including Konkan, Goa, Ghat areas of Madhya Maharashtra and parts of Gujarat are likely to receive continuous rain till July 25. In South India, Kerala and coastal Karnataka may face extremely heavy rainfall on July 20. Apart from this, rain is also expected to continue in Tamil Nadu, Andhra Pradesh, Telangana and Karnataka.
Odisha, Chhattisgarh, Madhya Pradesh, Bihar and West Bengal may receive heavy to very heavy rainfall at some places during July 20 to 25, while North-East India is likely to receive rain with thunderstorms throughout the week.
People have been urged to follow weather warnings and be cautious of incidents like floods, landslides and lightning.
