IMD Weather Update: Delhi AQI Hits ‘Severe Plus’! Check Forecast For Tamil Nadu, Kerala And Other Cities

IMD in its press release dated Nov 17 has predicted thunderstorms accompanied by lightning and squally wind speeds of 30 to 40 kmph over the southeast Arabian Sea, Lakshadweep area, Comorin area, and south Andaman Sea and Nicobar area.

The India Meteorological Department (IMD) has forecast light to moderate rainfall for a few places on November 18, accompanied by isolated thunderstorms and lightning over Tamil Nadu, Puducherry, Karaikal, Kerala, and Mahe. As per the latest information and data from IMD, light to moderate rainfall is also expected in many places over the Andaman and Nicobar Islands this week.

IMD Weather Update: Forecast & Warnings

IMD has predicted dense fog conditions in isolated pockets of Punjab, Haryana, Chandigarh, North Rajasthan, north Uttar Pradesh, and Bihar in the early morning hours today. Dense fog conditions are very likely to persist during the late night and early morning hours in isolated pockets of Himachal Pradesh during the next 5 days.

Sub-Himalayan West Bengal & Sikkim and west Assam & Meghalaya are also expected to experience dense fog conditions for 24 hours.

Weather Systems

According to the latest weather update, a cyclonic circulation is located over the Maldives and adjoining Equatorial Indian Ocean in the lower tropospheric level. Additionally, trough runs from the above cyclonic circulation over the Maldives & adjoining Equatorial Indian Ocean to southeast Arabian Sea in lower tropospheric levels.

Temperature Conditions And Forecast

There has been no major change in minimum temperature over most parts of the country during the last 24 hours. A gradual decline in minimum temperatures by 2-3°C and 2-4°C is very likely to prevail over Northwest India & Maharashtra Region during the next 5 days respectively. No large change in minimum temperatures is very likely over Central India during the next 3 days. However, a large change in minimum temperatures is expected over East India during the next 5 days.

IMD Weather Forecast For Delhi

The National Capital experienced a slight decline in maximum temperatures during the past 24 hours. The ‘severe’ Air Quality Index (AQI) in Delhi has led to the enforcement of Stage IV of the Graded Response Action Plan (GRAP). Delhi-NCR will come under GRAP-4 restrictions starting today. 

AQI: Delhi’s air quality plunged to the ‘severe plus’ category on Sunday after the AQI reached 457 at 7 pm. The AQI crossed the ‘severe plus’ category mark for the very first time since Wednesday. All stations in Delhi reported an AQI of over 400 with Ashok Vihar (487), Wazirpur (483), and Bawana (490) recording the most polluted levels at 7 pm.

The majority of areas across Delhi recorded a ‘severe plus’ air quality on Monday morning as the AQI reached 450. Punjabi Bagh, Mundka, and Ashok Vihar recorded the worst AQI of 495.
