The India Meteorological Department (IMD) has issued orange alert for Tamil Nadu as the Northeast Monsoon is expected to make its onset between October 15 and 16 over southeastern India. The report stated that there will be heavy rainfall in Tamil Nadu and Andhra Pradesh between October 15 and 17 with some isolated places likely to record extremely heavy rain. Moreover, the IMD has issued a yellow warning for the coastal states of Andhra Pradesh, Kerala, and Rayalaseema, particularly with such heavy rains in the same period.
Red Alert For Chennai
The Regional Meteorological Centre, Chennai, has issued a red alert on October 16 along with the districts surrounding the area. Heavy to very heavy rains are likely to occur over isolated places in Karaikal in Tamil Nadu, Rayalaseema, and Puducherry on October 16. Heavy rains are forecasted in the state of Tamil Nadu, Karaikal, and Puducherry from October 14-17, while rain conditions are going to prevail throughout the week in Mahe and Kerala.
North Andhra Pradesh And Karnataka Forecast
Heavy showers will lash rain-belt areas of Coastal Andhra Pradesh and Yanam between 15 and 16 October while Rayalaseema region will be witnessing rainfall between 14 and 17 October. Heavy downpour is expected to batter the North Interior Karnataka on 17 and 18 October. Meanwhile, heavy to very heavy rainfall is expected across Coastal Karnataka and South Interior Karnataka between 14 and 16 October.
Rainfall Updates For Central And Western India
The IMD predicts scattered light rains over most parts of Central and Western India during the coming week, including Goa, Madhya Maharashtra, Vidarbha, Marathwada, Konkan, and Chhattisgarh. It has predicted heavy rains in Goa and Konkan on October 17. Moderate rains can be expected in Gujarat in the coming two days, but this may later turn out to be in isolation. Isolated light to moderate rain can be expected over Rajasthan on October 14, while no significant rain is forecasted over the Eastern and Northeastern Indian zone during the week.
Delhi Air Quality Worsens
Meanwhile, Delhi’s air quality worsened, which has fallen from ‘moderate’ to ‘poor’ category after the Dussehra celebrations. The AQI peaked at 215 on Monday, according to the CPCB, said it is the most delayed arrival of a ‘poor’ day in October since 2015, excluding the pandemic year.
