Integrated Manufacturing Cluster (IMC), Gaya under Amritsar Kolkata Industrial Corridor (AKIC) is being developed as Bihar’s biggest industrial township.
The IMC project- spanning over 1670 acres of land in Dobhi block of Sherghati sub-division of Gaya district- will be developed at a cost of Rs 1339 crore including land cost of Rs 462.14 crore.
Once the industrial node at Gaya is completed, it is expected to attract major manufacturing investments, create large scale employment opportunities and significantly contribute to regional development.
Bihar Chief Secretary Amrit Lal Meena has reviewed the project in detail and directed to decide on the selection of agency by the end of March 2026 as the land has already been acquired for the purpose by the state government.
It will be state’s largest industrial township of Bihar, Meena said.
The EPC tender for the industrial township is likely to be floated in the first week of July, 2025. In an EPC contract, a single contractor is responsible for all aspects of the project, including the design (engineering), the purchase of material and equipment (procurement), and the physical construction (construction).
The tender is being finalized in consultation with National Industrial Corridor Development Corporation (NICDC).
Out of 11 industrial corridor being developed by the Central government, IMC Gaya is being established under AKIC project. It is being implemented in five states in association with the Central government under National Industrial Corridor Development Programme.
The focussed sectors proposed to be established at IMC Gaya includes- Agro & food processing, readymade garments, technical industry (auto component, steel-based products, aerospace & defence, building materials, furniture & handloom, and handicrafts.
The project aims to attract ₹16,524 crore investments and generate over 109,000 jobs upon completion. Designed with state-of-the-art infrastructure and Plug-n-Play facilities, project would provide a market-driven & investment-friendly ecosystem.
The Cabinet Committee on Economic Affairs (CCEA) gave its approval to the project on August 28, 2024 while the environmental clearance was granted by Ministry of Environment and Forest and Climate Change on March 18, 2025.
An SPV Bihar Integrated Manufacturing City Gaya Ltd (BIMCGL ) was incorporated for the purpose on January 06, 2025.
The state government notified it as the industrial area besides giving stamp duty waiver in March 2025.
The state cabinet had on May 16, 2025 approved a green field alignment of approximately 7 km connecting the site (External Connectivity-E3) with Golden Quadrilateral (NH-19, GT Road) at an estimated cost of Rs 142 crore.
Besides, the state government has taken several policy reforms for ease of doing business.
Gaya is a UNESCO world heritage site, which is an established attraction for international tourism and development of IMC will add more economic value to the overall region.
Further availability of professional & technical institutions, IIM, Engineering & medical colleges, universities, ITIs along with skilled manpower would be an ideal location for industrial units.
