‘I Have Faith In Judiciary,’ Says Ex-EFI Chief Brij Bhushan Sharan Singh On Closure Of POCSO Case

Former Wrestling Federation of India (WFI) chief Brij Bhushan Sharan Singh expressed his faith in the judiciary following the Delhi court's acceptance of the closure report in the sexual harassment case filed against him under the Protection of Children from Sexual Offences (POCSO) Act.

Former Wrestling Federation of India (WFI) chief and former BJP MP Brij Bhushan Sharan Singh expressed happiness after Delhi’s Patiala House Court on Monday accepted the cancellation report filed by the Police in a Protection of Children from Sexual Offences (POCSO) case against him as he said that he had a lot faith on Lord Hanuman and the Judiciary.

While speaking to the reporters in Ayodhya, Singh said, “I have great faith in Lord Hanuman and myself… When allegations were levelled against me on January 18, 2023, I said it was a lie… Everything I said turned out to be true… The sections that were imposed to prevent harassment are being misused today… I have great faith in the judiciary.” He said that several sections that were imposed to prevent harassment are being misused now.

A Delhi Court on Monday accepted the closure report filed by the Police cancelling the sexual harassment case that had been filed under the Protection of Children from Sexual Offences (POCSO) Act by a wrestler against the ex-WFI chief. “Cancellation accepted,” Additional Sessions Judge Gomti Manocha said. Singh had appeared before the Court in proceedings, and the complainant was also called to record and verify statements in the case.

On May 17, the Court had summoned the complainant wrestler in relation to the case in which she accused Brij Bhushan of sexual harassment when she was a minor. The Delhi Police had previously filed a cancellation report in June 2023 after the victim’s statement was withdrawn. On August 1, 2023, when the case was heard in court, the complainant and her father expressed satisfaction with the police investigation, and had not opposed the closure report.

The police had proposed closure of the POCSO case against Singh but laid charges of sexual harassment and stalking in a separate case filed by six women wrestlers. In the case involving the minor wrestler, the police proposed cancellation of the complaint, and said that “no corroborative evidence” was found.

The FIR on the allegations made by the minor wrestler was registered under the Protection of Children from Sexual Offences (POCSO) Act and the appropriate sections of IPC, for the offence of outraging modesty. The father of the minor wrestler subsequently came out and said he had made a “false” complaint of sexual harassment against Brij Bhushan. The father, who was in fact a coach, said he acted out of anger and frustration with the WFI Chief’s alleged preferential treatment towards his daughter.
