‘I Couldn’t Hold Back My Tears’: Eyewitness Sajad Ahmad Bhat Shares Emotional Account of Pahalgam Horror – Ground Report By Aasif Suhaf

In the wake of the tragic terror attack in Pahalgam that claimed 27 lives and left many injured, the resilience and bravery of local youth shone through as they became the first responders to assist the terror victims. Among these courageous individuals was Sajad Ahmad Bhat, a shawl hawker whose selfless actions have captured the hearts of many, with videos of him carrying an injured tourist going viral on social media.

The incident unfolded in the picturesque Baisaran Valley, a popular tourist destination. On receiving an urgent message from Abdul Waheed Wani, the president of the Pahalgam Poney Association, Bhat quickly mobilized with fellow locals to provide aid. “I was sitting at home when I got the news about the attack. It was my duty to help our tourists,” Bhat recounted.

It is our duty to help tourists, as they are our guests”.

As they rushed to transport the injured to nearby hospitals, Bhat described the harrowing scene: “People were pleading for help… When I saw the tourists crying, tears came to my eyes. The courageous efforts of Bhat and his fellow locals highlight not only their bravery but also the deep-rooted sense of belonging and hospitality towards tourists in times of crisis.
