Two engineers paid the ultimate price after a hair transplantation allegedly performed at a private clinic in Kanpur, Uttar Pradesh. What came to be viewed as a rather simple cosmetic procedure, and believed by many to be harmless, took a rapid turn for the two men, who died within 24 hours of being treated.
The two engineers, Vineet Dubey, an assistant engineer at Panki Power Plant, and Mayank Katiyar, an engineer from Farrukhabad, went to Dr Anushka Tiwari’s clinic, Empire. When they died, Dr Tiwari went missing, and the disciplinary board removed the displays from the clinic.
What Exactly Happened To The Engineers?
The nightmare came to light when Vineet Dubey’s wife Jaya Tripathi lodged a complaint against the clinic on the chief minister’s portal.
Jaya in her complaint asserted that her husband’s face had become severely swollen and he had been in excruciating pain in the hours before his death on March 14, a day after he received the hair transplant at Tiwari’s clinic.
Additional DCP West Vijendra Dwivedi, who is investigating the matter, told news agency PTI that an infection is thought to have occurred during the procedure and was unfortunately not treated, leading to a rapid decline in his health and ultimate death.
The brother of the other victim also spoke to reporters and shared similar symptoms. Mayank Katiyar underwent surgery on November 18 in the Empire clinic; however, hours later he complained of chest pain and swelling and the very next day he died.
FIR Against The Doctor
Based on the complaint of Vineet Dubey’s wife, a FIR was lodged on May 9 under the Bharatiya Nyay Sanhita’s section 106(1) for causing death through negligence. Up until now, the police have issued six notices to Tiwari, according to ACP Kalyanpur Abhishek Pandey, as shared with Bhaskar English, but she has chosen not to respond.
Was The Doctor Qualified To Perform Hair Transplant?
According to medical guidelines, only qualified dermatologists or plastic surgeons are permitted to perform hair transplants. Unexpectedly, Tiwari has a Bachelor of Dental Surgery (BDS) from Manav Rachna Dental College in Faridabad, which is validation for her dental training. According to Bhaskar English, Tiwari has never shown any certification in hair transplantation.
What Do Past Patients Have To Say?
A man named Ramji Sachan, who had a hair transplant done at the same clinic and survived, indicates his treatment was 5-6 hours and he had swelling and pain. Sachan also told Bhaskar English that he had paid in advance, but the prescription he received from Empire had no name of doctor or medical registration.
Panel Created For Investigation
Kanpur’s Chief Medical Officer, Dr Hari Dutt Negi, has created a three-member committee to investigate the clinic. The panel will look at how the clinic operated, how many patients were treated, and whether qualified people actually performed the surgeries.
