Elephant Rampage In Jharkhand: Two Killed In Separate Incidents

Two people were killed in separate elephant attacks in Jharkhand's East Singhbhum district. A septuagenarian man was crushed in Chauthia village, while a widow died when an elephant collapsed her house wall in Dighi village. Villagers protested, demanding compensation. Forest officials are investigating both incidents.

A septuagenarian man was crushed to death by an elephant while he was out in the forest near Chauthia village, Jharkhand early Sunday morning. The elephant attacked him suddenly, dragged him a distance, and then killed him.

In another incident, an elderly woman named Baso Hansdah, a widow, was killed when a wall collapsed on her during an attack by a wild elephant in Dighi village late Saturday night. She was sleeping when the elephant attacked her house, breaking the wall, which then fell on her.

Divisional Forest Officer (Dhalbhum) Saba Alam Ansari confirmed both incidents and stated that details were still being gathered. Upon receiving information, a forest department team rushed to the sites to investigate.

In protest against the attacks, enraged villagers blocked the Chakulia-Matiyana main road on Sunday morning, demanding adequate compensation. Forest department officials and police arrived at the scene, assuring the villagers that their demands would be addressed according to the provisions of the forest department, said SDPO (Ghatsila) Ajit Kumar Kujjur.

Both bodies have been sent for post-mortem examination.
