Dolls Soaked In Children’s Urine And Drones: UP’s Unique Strategy To Hunt Killer Wolves

In an effort to capture the remaining wolves, officials are employing an unusual strategy—using large soft toys dressed in colorful clothes and soaked in children’s urine

Bahraich: A series of wolf attacks in Bahraich, Uttar Pradesh, has claimed the lives of eight people, including seven children and a woman, over the past two months. As part of the forest department’s ‘Operation Bhediya’, four out of the six wolves involved have been captured, while two remain at large.

Unconventional Tactics: Soft Toys Soaked in Children’s Urine as Bait

In an effort to capture the remaining wolves, officials are employing an unusual strategy—using large soft toys dressed in colorful clothes and soaked in children’s urine. This tactic aims to simulate a human presence and lure the wolves closer to the traps. According to Divisional Forest Officer Ajit Pratap Singh, the wolves have been primarily targeting children, and this method is designed to exploit their behavior.

Thermal Drones and Firecrackers: Tracking the Wolves

The forest department is also utilizing thermal drones to monitor the wolves’ movements. In an attempt to drive them towards traps set in deserted areas, officials are using firecrackers and loud noises to scare the wolves away from populated regions.

Elephant Dung: A Natural Repellent for Wolves

Another innovative method being used is burning elephant dung to create a scent that mimics the presence of elephants. Wolves, which typically avoid large animals like elephants, are deterred by the scent. This tactic is being employed to push the wolves away from inhabited areas and into remote locations where traps with bait have been set.

As the forest department intensifies its efforts, residents remain on high alert, fearing further attacks by the two wolves still at large.
