Delhi-Jaipur Highway Shut On March 26-27! Here’s Why And Alternate Routes You Can Take

The Delhi-Jaipur Highway (NH-48) was closed for traffic on March 26-27 due to the installation of a foot overbridge (FOB) at Narsingpur.

Traffic flow on the Delhi-Jaipur and the Delhi-Gurugram Expressway will be disturbed due to the construction of a foot overbridge (FOB) at Narsinghpur. The Gurugram Metropolitan Development Authority (GMDA) will undertake the installation for six hours, beginning from midnight, Wednesday to 6 AM, Thursday.

Advisory

Commuters traveling from Delhi to Jaipur should adopt alternate routes. The flow of traffic from Delhi to Jaipur will be diverted from Hero Honda Chowk and be re-joined with NH-48 through the Southern Peripheral Road (SPR) -Dwarka Road by taking a right turn through the traffic signal at Vatika Chowk.

Moreover, for vehicles coming from Jaipur, those coming from Jaipur are required to take the Dwarka Expressway after passing the Kherki Daula toll plaza and then traverse via SPR road after a U-turn at Elan Chowk. “From there, they will have to turn left at Vatika Chowk’s traffic light and continue via Gurugram Rajiv Chowk,” the advisory said.

Foot Overbridge Installation

GMDA is going to install a steel FOB (foot overbridge) that is 110-ft long, and the structure is already in place. It should take in total about 8 hours on either side of the carriageway. This project will cost ₹1.6 crore and it aims to improve pedestrian safety by providing a new dedicated crossing point over the Delhi-Jaipur Expressway. The new FOB will be located approximately 300 metres away from the existing FOB.

Safety Concerns

Narsinghpur village has a population of about 50,000 people and lacks pedestrian safety because of the expressway dividing the locality. The expressway splits the village along a 60:40 ratio. This has forced residents to cross by climbing over the central verge and has resulted in deaths from accidents.

The new FOB is intended to increase capacity for locals to cross the road safely and prevent mobility related accidents. The area has a high degree of residential density and there is considerable industry, resulting in a high degree of foot traffic. Residents have even damaged part of the central verge to cut gaps to cross, which increases risk of accidents.
