Dalit Man Assaulted, Paraded Half-Naked in Ludhiana Village; One Arrested

The Punjab Police said a Dalit man was assaulted, paraded half-naked, and had his face blackened and shaved after his friend eloped with a girl in Seeda village, Ludhiana.

A video of the incident went viral on social media. The village is located on the outskirts of Ludhiana. The police have arrested one person in connection with the case.

According to PTI, the police said the man, Harjot Singh, was targeted by the woman’s family for allegedly helping the couple elope. Harjot’s friend is said to have tied the knot with the woman on June 19.

Face shaved, clothes torn

According to reports, the woman’s family members dragged Harjot on the road, shaved his face, and blackened it. They also tore his clothes and paraded him half-naked on the street. A few bystanders filmed the incident and shared it on social media.

The police have registered a case under various sections of the BNS, including the IT Act and the SC/ST Act. A senior police officer said that one person has been arrested, and efforts are underway to nab the other accused.

Life-convict out on bail in murder case arrested in rape case

In a separate incident, a life convict out on bail in a murder case has been arrested by Delhi Police in connection with a rape case registered last month at Patel Nagar police station, officials said on Sunday.

The arrested accused, identified as Manjeet alias Manja (39), is a resident of Patel Nagar, Bahadurgarh in Haryana.

Complainant levelled allegations of sexual offences

According to the police, a complaint was received at the Patel Nagar Police Station on June 11 against the accused, Manjeet, in which the complainant levelled allegations of sexual offences.

Acting on the complaint, a case was registered under sections 64(2), 127(3), 123, 308(2), 351(2), and 3(5) of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS), and an investigation was initiated.
