COVID-19: Uttarakhand On High Alert After Two Women, Including AIIMS Doctor, Test Positive

Dr Sunita Tamta, Director General of Health in Uttarakhand, said that a 57-year-old woman from Gujarat visited Rishikesh for religious purposes. She tested positive for coronavirus after exhibiting its symptoms.

Dehradun: At least two women, in Uttarakhand, including a doctor from AIIMS Rishikesh, have tested COVID-19 positive. The state is currently on high alert after the news emerged. Both women recently traveled to Uttarakhand from Bengaluru and Gujarat, respectively. According to Dr Sunita Tamta, Director General of Health in Uttarakhand, a 57-year-old woman from Gujarat visited Rishikesh for religious purposes. She tested positive for coronavirus after exhibiting its symptoms.

No Other Active Cases In Uttarakhand

While the Gujarat woman is currently undergoing treatment at a hospital, the second patient, who is a doctor from Bengaluru, is receiving medical care at home. Her health is said to be fine. Dr. Sunita Tamta said that there are no other active cases of COVID-19 in Uttarakhand as of now. She added that 277 cases of coronavirus have been reported across the country as of May 22. The active cases are primarily from Maharashtra, Tamil Nadu, and Kerala.

State Ramp Up Testing & Monitoring Of COVID-19 Cases

The two active COVID-19 case in Uttarakhand has, however, prompted the state to intensify measures aligning with Central Government guidelines. Dr. Tamta noted that Chief Medical Officers across the state are already directed to focus on aggressive testing and sampling of the virus. Genome sequencing must be conducted if a new case is detected to identify the variant. Meanwhile, monitoring of travelers from other states is actively done. The oxygen plants and hospital beds are kept functional as a precaution.
