Covid-19 Update: New Delhi Records First Case Of JN.1 Sub-Variant Of Omicron

The official mentioned that the deceased suffered from multi-system inflammatory syndrome and was highly comorbid.

New Delhi on Wednesday reported its first case of the JN.1 sub-variant of Omicron. According to health officials, out of three samples sent for genome sequencing, one was identified as JN.1, a derivative of BA.2.86, while the remaining two were confirmed as Omicron.

Delhi’s Health Minister, Saurabh Bharadwaj, reassured the public by stating that JN.1 is a mild infection, emphasizing that there is no need for panic as it causes only mild sickness. The sub-variant is reportedly spreading in South India.COVID

An official from the Delhi government revealed that a 28-year-old patient, who had underlying health conditions, passed away. The official asserted that Covid was not the primary cause of death.

According to official data, Delhi currently has around 35 active cases, with nine new infections reported on Wednesday. The deceased patient, not originally from Delhi, was referred to a private hospital and had multiple comorbidities. The official clarified that the Covid finding was incidental, and the sample has been sent for genome sequencing, with results pending.
