‘Could Be Deported Or Face Permanent Ban’: US Embassy In India Issues Fresh Warning To Indians Over Visa Overstays

“If you remain in the United States beyond your authorized period of stay, you could be deported and could face a permanent ban on traveling to the United States in the future,” the US Embassy in India said in its official tweet.

The US Embassy in India has issued a stern warning to foreign nationals staying in the United States beyond their authorized duration. In an official post shared on X (formerly Twitter), the embassy cautioned that overstaying a visa could result in deportation or even a permanent ban on future travel to the United States.

Court Blocks Deportation Policy Amid Rising Immigration Enforcement

The warning comes amid heightened enforcement under the Trump administration’s immigration policies. On Friday, a federal appeals court in the US refused to permit the administration to restart deporting migrants to nations other than their own without prior notification or an opportunity to seek protection from persecution or torture. As reported by CNN, the US First Circuit Court of Appeals upheld a lower court’s decision that blocked the controversial policy.

The appellate panel raised concerns about “the irreparable harm that will result from wrongful removals in this context,” especially in light of reported plans to send migrants to unstable countries like Libya, where detainees have faced mistreatment.

In another development, the US Department of Homeland Security (DHS) reminded foreign nationals of their obligation to register under the Alien Registration Act. In April, DHS Secretary Kristi Noem stated, “President Trump and I have a clear message for those in our country illegally: leave now. If you leave now, you may have the opportunity to return and enjoy our freedom and live the American dream.”

She added, “The Trump administration will enforce all our immigration laws—we will not pick and choose which laws we will enforce. We must know who is in our country for the safety and security of our homeland and all Americans.”

President Donald Trump had earlier signed Executive Order 14159, titled Protecting the American People Against Invasion, directing DHS to restore order and accountability in the US immigration system
