Coming Under Backlash, Shiv Sena (UBT) Leader Arvind Sawant Apologises To Shaina NC For Derogatory Remarks

Shiv Sena (UBT) leader Arvind Sawant apologised for his remark against Shiv Sena's Shaina NC.


After facing backlash for his statement, Shiv Sena (UBT) leader Arvind Sawant on Saturday tendered apology for his “imported Maal” remark against Shiva Sena leader Shaina NC and stated that he never intended to insult women in his political career.

Shiv Sena candidate from Mumba Devi Shaina NC lodged an FIR under section 79 and 356(2)against Shiv Sena (UBT) leader Arvind Sawant at Nagpada police station alleging that he made a objectionable remark against her.

Earlier, today Shiv Sena leader Shaina NC condemned Shiv Sena (UBT) leader Arvind Sawant’s remark against her.

Arvind Sawant’S Apology Over His Remark

Shiv Sena (UBT) leader Arvind Sawant on Saturday apologised for his “Imported Maal” remark against Shiva Sena leader Shaina NC.

“For last one day, an atmosphere is being created that I have insulted a women. I am being deliberately targeted by giving a different meaning, I am sad about this but still, if my statement has hurt anyone’s feelings then I regret. The respect of women in the country cannot be seen according to the party” said Shiv Sena (UBT) leader Arvind Sawant.

Shaina NC was earlier in BJP then joined Eknath Shinde led Shiv Sena. She is contesting against Amin Patel of Congress from Mumba Devi assembly constituency.

Arvind Sawant’s Remark On Shaina NC

Sawant sparked controversy on November 1 after he allegedly reffered Shiv Sena leader Shaina NC as “Imported Maal”. He said “Look at her condition. she was in BJP all her life and now she went to another party. Imported ‘maal’ doesn’t work here; only original ‘maal’ does’.

Shaina strongly condemned his remark, stating that objectification of women is not a small problem. Shaina NC lodged an FIR under section 79 and 356(2)against Shiv Sena (UBT) leader Arvind Sawant.

Maharashtra CM Eknath Shinde’s response

Maharashtra CM Eknath Shinde condemned Arvind Sawant’s remark against Shaina NC saying that if Balasaheb Thackeray was alive, he would have broken his mouth. He termed sawant remark as unfortunate. He stated that women will teach lesson to those who disrespect women in upcoming Maharashtra Assembly election.
Maharashtra Assembly election is set to take place on November 20, with vote counting for all 288 constituencies on November 23rd.
