About The Iconic- Chenab Bridge
The work of the Iconic Chenab Bridge was approved in 2003. Indian Railways studied seismic activity in the area and redesigned the bridge and its arches to withstand extremes of 266 km/h wind speeds because the zone shows high seismic activity. Besides the intricate engineering difficulties, engineers worked to make the structure resistant to blasts, as reported by BBC. The bridge possesses blast resistance capabilities because it can withstand an explosion of 40 kg TNT without interrupting train services. However, according to Afcons, movements would become slower.
This bridge will be the highest railway bridge, stretching 13,115 meters and 359 meters tall. The Chenab Bridge is made for a lifespan of 120 years. It has cleared various tests including high-velocity winds, earthquakes, extreme temperatures, and hydrological impacts.
