New Delhi: The Border Security Force (BSF) on Saturday foiled yet another cross-border drug smuggling attempt in Fazilka district of Punjab. The BSF had seized 7.5 kg of heroin dropped by a Pakistani drone and a pistol, among other items. BSF soldiers open fired on three to four suspects who came to pick up the consignment but they managed to escape.

Heroine recovered from shot drones

As per information, at 12.05 a.m. soldiers heard the sound of drones entering Indian territory near Churiwala Chusti village which is 13 km from Fazilka. BSF spokesperson said that they fired in the direction of the drone, which went back to Pakistan. During the search BSF personnel searched the area and recovered 7.5 kg of heroin in 3 packets. Apart from this, a pistol, two magazines and 50 cartridges of 9 mm pistol were also found.

The soldiers who were posted at the Joginder outpost of Ferozepur spotted a drone at around 10 pm on Friday night. The BSF soldiers fired at the drone in retaliation from 5.56 INSAS rifle, trying to hit the target which was approximately 250 meters away from the border fence.

BSF shot down 16 drones till November

BSF Director General Pankaj Singh had told ANI that the force has shot down 16 drones so far this year. He said that we have adopted three to four methods to deal with the drone menace and they are giving very good results.

He said, ‘We have also given incentives to our jawans who shot down these drones. Due to these efforts, we have shot down 16 drones till November this year, which is much more than the one shot down last year. The number of drones shot down is expected to rise to 25 by the end of this year.”
